Debrell Miggins (Young) is a proud graduate of Crete-Monee High School, Class of 2014, and also attended Crete-Monee Middle School and Balmoral Elementary School.
After high school, she earned her Associate’s degree in Liberal Arts from Lincoln College in Lincoln, Illinois. She then continued her education at Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois, where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Education.
Debrell began her career as a first-grade teacher in Peoria Public School District #150, where she continues to inspire young learners every day. She is passionate about helping students grow academically and personally, and she is committed to making a lasting impact in the classroom. To further enhance her skills as an educator, she is currently pursuing her Master’s degree in Reading Education at Grand Canyon University and expects to graduate this August.
She shares that Crete-Monee School District 201-U helped shape who she is today and provided a strong foundation for her future. The support and encouragement she received from teachers and staff inspired her to pursue a career in education. Debrell is grateful for the experiences, relationships, and memories she gained throughout her time in the district.
Crete-Monee Warriors Alumni & Friends asked Debrell to answer a few questions…
Did you have a favorite class? Were there any teachers or other staff members who impacted you during your time in the district?
My favorite class was my junior year high school English class. I really enjoyed it because it helped me grow as a reader and writer. My favorite teacher was Mrs. Dewey. She was very encouraging and always pushed me to do my best. Her support and belief in me made a lasting impact on me as a student.
Tell us about a memorable experience from high school.
One of my most memorable experiences in high school was being in the show choir. I loved performing and being part of a team that worked hard together. It was a fun way to express myself and build confidence. We spent a lot of time practicing and preparing for performances. Those moments and memories are something I will always remember.
What was your favorite part of high school? least favorite?
My favorite part of high school was participating in the show choir. I loved performing and spending time with my friends in the group. My least favorite part of high school was going to PE class. Exercising was not my favorite thing to do. Even with that, I still tried my best and learned from the experience.
What is your greatest professional/personal accomplishment?
My greatest professional accomplishment is becoming a first-grade teacher. I worked hard to earn my degree in Early Childhood Education and start my career. I feel proud every day when I see my students learning and growing. Personally, I am proud of continuing my education while teaching. Pursuing my master’s degree in Reading Education is helping me become an even better teacher.
What is your fondest memory of your time during high school?
My fondest memory of my time at CM 201-U was performing in the show choir. I loved being on stage and performing with my teammates. We worked hard during rehearsals, and it always paid off during our performances. The energy from the crowd made it even more exciting. Those performances created memories that I will always cherish.
What advice would you give to Crete-Monee High School students today?
My advice to Crete-Monee High School students today is to always believe in yourself. Work hard and stay focused on your goals. Don’t be afraid to try new things and step out of your comfort zone. Surround yourself with people who support and encourage you. Most importantly, enjoy your time in high school and make memories along the way.
